Will your next phone have a screen made of diamonds?

A US smartphone components manufacturer Akham Semiconductor, is in the process of developing the first ever phone screen to be made out of diamonds. The diamonds glass screen  called ‘Miraj Diamond Glass’, use a ‘nanocrystal‘ pattern that arranges them in random pattern to help lower the probability of deep cracks forming on a devies’s screen. It also prevents any damagae of the materials underneath the screen, such as any LED panels or sensors.

  • Diamond screens could eventually revolutionise phone screen technology, but it is unlikely to come atcheap price
  • Current smartphone screens are comprised of primarily of aluminium,silicone and oxygen
  • Most device makers use Corning’s Gorilla Glass, a shatterproof coating or sapphire cysal screen protectors to keep their device’s screen from cracking
