Hilton to offer smart home features in its hotel rooms

Hilton Group of hotels have announced a Connected Room platform that enables guests to personalize and control every aspect of their room from their mobile device. Currently in beta testing, Connected Room is live in one hotel, will deploy in coming weeks in several more, and finally begin to scale rapidly to hotels across the United States in 2018, said the company in a statement.

Guests will be able to do this using the Hilton Honors app and will be able to control things such as the temperature, lighting, TV and window coverings. Through this platform, guests will also be able to personalize their in-room TVs with streaming media and other accounts as well.

In the long term, Connected Room will be able to use voice commands to control their room or access their content, and to upload their own artwork and photos to automatically display in their room, as per the company. Guests will also be able to set various preferences in Hilton Honors account profile to customize their in-room experience according to their individual preferences. This app is already being used by Hilton Honors members to check in, select their room, and open their hotel room’s door with Digital Key.

The beta version of Connected Room uses a physical remote control to manage it. In order to provide a better user experience, Hilton is also closely working with streaming media providers so that the customers will be able to access their favourite content in Connected Room hotels.

“Innovation has been in Hilton’s DNA since entrepreneur Conrad Hiltonpurchased the first Hilton property and pioneered the hospitality industry nearly 100 years ago,” said Christopher J. Nassetta, president and CEO, Hilton. “Many innovations later, we are once again setting a new standard for the industry by giving our guests a travel experience where the room knows them, and they know their room.”
